Is It Really Procrastination?

Thank you to everyone who sent me photos and descriptions of favorite procrastination techniques. You are awesome! And.... some of the things you do made me wonder:

Is It Really Procrastination?

Because many of your activities required great concentration, skill, creativity, and perseverance. Puzzles, painting, games, running laps, cards, cleaning cupboards... none of it was mindless. In fact, purging your closet before writing a dissertation is actually a way to clear your environment so your mind is uncluttered, too. Going for a run before grading papers or planning a party gives you time to subconsciously process ideas. My latest stained glass effort (which I'm entitling: Grapes Into Wine) actually helped me to de-stress enough to figure out the next steps needed in building a new kitchen.

So hey--- don't put off procrastination! Unless it leads to last-minute emergencies, anxiety, or sleep-deprivation, that hour or three that you use to re-charge can be very beneficial. You may end up with better focus, better health, or with a new faux stained glass ornament on your wall. Design your own happiness every day.
